Dyslexia FeelGood Funday- what it’s all about and how to get involved.

Dee Davis – Dyslexia Events Organiser

Dee Davis is one of Creased Puddles’ amazing team of associates and Dee is looking for support to set up the Dyslexia FeelGood Funday in 2023. In this blog Dee explains what the Funday is all about and how you can get involved:

Hi, my name is Dee and I live in Northwest London. During my 26 years of working, I have been employed as an events and activities organiser and as a volunteering coordinator.  During lockdown, I even trained as an online teacher of English as a foreign language. Currently I’m working in a library.

As someone who is dyslexic & dyspraxic, I have attended many informative sessions, events, and conferences to help neurodivergent (ND) people in training, employment, education, and other practical support sessions, which were invaluable. However, I felt there weren’t any events which were more focussed on being fun and entertaining and on bringing the ND community together in a more relaxed environment.

I came up with the idea of the Dyslexia FeelGood Funday, which is the third name change for it, as a result of wanting to create an entertaining dyslexia event that complemented the existing array of developmental dyslexia workshops, talks and conferences. The Funday aims to build confidence, improve mental well-being and be the fun, playful, light-hearted and entertaining side of neurodivergence.

“Presently I’m seeking funding and hopefully will secure funds to create an event or two taking place in 2023 onwards.  The Funday will comprise of six sessions for all ages in spoken word, art, crafts, theatre, and dance. It would be great if people would attend, and in so doing, try new interesting activities and build on those activities beyond the life of the event, so continuing to increase their general confidence levels and wellbeing.

In the main area there will be the Arts Zone with the Let’s Make It! Space where guests can further create unique arts & crafts, Also taking place in the main area will be the Food Court with plant-based and world foods. Lastly there will be the Feel Good Zone with fitness and well-being activities and the opportunity to play dyslexic-inspired games and gain insight into dyslexia-friendly resources and software. Lastly there will be a Chill-Lax Room where visitors can go for some calm, peace and quiet away from the business of the main event.

The event dates are yet to be confirmed but they will take place in the Camden area of London and are aimed at all ages.

At this stage I am looking for a number of things:

  • Expressions of interest from people who may be interested in volunteering
  • Individuals or groups who may like to attend the event
  • Businesses who may be wiling to donate towards the event
  • Fundraisers

We hope to have more news to share in early 2023.
